
Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
A circular 7km run taking in the highlights of Newcastle from the Quayside to the City Centre, Grey’s Monument to Grey St, St James Park to Leazes Park. All paths and roads are lit so this route can be done during the day or at night.

Route overview
Start on Newcastle / North side of Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Run West (river on your left).

Part 1 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Run under Tyne Bridge, Swing Bridge and High Level Bridge.

Part 2 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Run underneath next bridge. Turn right off the quayside to the road under the bridge (B1600 Close). Cross when safe and run up Hanover Street opposite. Continue up and onto Clavering Place.

Part 3 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Continue ahead through tunnel on Forth St. Turn left onto Westgate Rd. Turn left onto Neville St. Run past main Central train station on your left.

Part 4 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Cross over at traffic lights when safe. Run up Bewick St. Turn right into Thomas Bewick Square. Turn left into Pink Lane. Cross over road (Clayton St W) when safe and continue along Pink Lane. Cross over Westgate Rd when safe. Run on pedestrianised path area to west of West Walls. Follow walls round to the right.

Part 5 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Follow path by walls to Chinese Gate. Turn left at Chinese Gate onto St Andrew’s Street. Cross over main road Gallowgate when safe and continue along St Andrew’s Street. Turn right then left into Strawberry Lane.

Part 6 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Turn right onto Strawberry Place, cross over when safe, turn left up St James Street. Turn left onto Terrace Place. Turn right onto Leazes Terrace. Enter Leazes Park at end of Leazes Terrace. Follow path ahead to lake.

Part 7 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Run clockwise around lake. Follow path down towards tennis courts to left of Leazes Terrace. Exit Leazes Park onto Leazes Terrace. Turn left onto Leazes Crescent.

Part 8 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Cross over Leazes Park Road when safe. Run down Saint Thomas Crescent. Turn left onto St Thomas St. Cross when safe and turn right to run down King’s Rd. Run past Haymarket Lane. Turn right opposite old red brick University building into King’s Walk.

Part 9 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
At end of King’s Walk cross over Barras Bridge main road when safe. Head right and cross over B1307 St Mary’s Place when safe. Run down main pedestrianised shopping road Northumberland St.

Part 10 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Turn right onto Blackett St. Turn left at Grey’s Monument to run down Grey St.

Part 11 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Continue down Grey St. Cross over Mosley St when safe. Continue ahead along Dean St.

Part 12 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Continue ahead underneath the arches into Side. Follow Side and Sandhill down to the left to the Quayside under the Tyne Bridge.

Part 13 of the Newcastle City Centre Run 7km
Run along the quayside back to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
